DESCRIPTION
E-MED works towards increasing the capabilities of Public Transport Operators and Public Transport Authorities in the EURO-MED area by testing novel solutions to effectively manage public transport’s transition towards energy efficiency and resource-efficiency.
E-MED tests and verifies solutions aimed at significantly reducing the environmental impact of public transport systems by enhancing energy and resource efficiency. This effort is particularly critical given the current energy crisis, which fluctuates energy prices. The challenge primarily affects local public authorities, transport infrastructure, energy providers, electric vehicle suppliers, and service operators. Consequently, E-MED focuses on developing solutions to bolster energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources (e.g., through fleet and network planning tools, driver support, AI-assisted energy system maintenance) while also enhancing resource efficiency and resilience (e.g., battery and rainwater reuse, tire maintenance, procurement guidelines). These solutions facilitate evidence-based planning and implementation of electric bus systems, aiding in objective decision-making and intelligent planning, investment, and procurement processes from inception.
